Love & Wine at the Delamar

A luxurious Romantic Getaway steps from home

Images by Abram Moore

This year, Valentines Day looked just a bit different from the last few years since hubby and I have been married. Typically, we spend the day together and make something very memorable out of it. Sometimes, we opt for a staycation at a local hotel and take some time off of our usual life that can become so mundane. It helps us truly hone on each other in an intentional and intimate way. As lovely as that can be, this year hubby was away for work obligations so valentines day, was a solo festivity with some time spent video chatting with him and lots of time spent centering in on my myself.

The Delamar Hotel is located in West Hartford which is one of the coolest suburbs in central Connecticut. Specifically, it is located in Blue Back Square which is a swanky area of town that is home to great restaurants, a luxury cinema, retail, fitness studios, beauty services, and so much more. Blue Back Square is also in close proximity to West Hartford Center which also features a variety of speciality restaurants, boutique retail, and more. As a local to the area, I frequent Blue Back Square most often doing my biweekly Whole Foods run for groceries and fresh produce.

On arrival to The Delamar, your experience begins right outside the door when greeted by kind and complimentary valet staff. You are welcomed into an enticing and spacious light filled lobby featuring uniquely crafted furnishings, a glass/red leather Bluthner grand piano nestled in a corner, and a jaw dropping sculptural seating made purely of quarters. Your senses are captivated by the introduction of a crisp aroma permeating the air that carries throughout the rest of the stay. Check in is swift and easy and at its conclusion, someone says, “Prosecco Ma’am?” It is the opening scene to the casual luxury I certainly love; pristine, non-pretentious, and attainable. The AccomModations

The Delamar Hotel has so many delightful surprises in house; from a luxurious spa, a gym equipped with pelotons, to the complimentary 24H coffee and hot chocolate bar located in a beautiful lounge set off the lobby. The Delamar has all the perfect additions to create a luxurious ambiance. Inside my king room, there were two plush robes and slippers (which if you know me, I LOVE a robe). The mini bar is outfitted with some local and international brew, wine and snacks for your delight. The bed linens caress your skin and the pillows envelope your head so tenderly. It is the perfect set up for a good night’s rest. The bathroom is outstanding and if you are a strange one like me, the bathroom makes or breaks a hotel stay. The LED backlit mirrors provide the perfect light especially for those who need to have great light to do a proper full face of makeup. The stand in shower is accented by the most beautiful tiling and might I add, its Bulgari toiletries only around there. For this staycation, I spent so much time relaxing in bed and watching television. There were so many great channels that kept me so entertained; I settled for flipping between Bravo and HGTV the whole evening. Currently, The Delamar is offering a staycation package for residents of Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Dining at The Delamar Hotel

Artisan West Hartford offers guests casual and fine dining with the tavern, dining room, and garden experiences. The menu is New England inspired American dishes with an emphasis on farm to table fare. The ambiance in the tavern is that, that mirrors the french countryside; comfortable but elegant. When dining al fresco in warmer weather, the rich and vibrant garden is the perfect backdrop to light and whimsical summer fare paired with the most crisp Rosé. Everyday lunch offers a 2 or 3 course prix fixe menu that offers a variety of delightful courses. I highly recommend the beet carpaccio. It is delightful and the perfect way I enjoy beets; tangy and paired with goat cheese.

As a hotel guest, you are treated to a complimentary daily breakfast buffet between 7am- 9.30am. The spread is lavish and includes scrambled eggs, sausage/bacon, potatoes, fresh fruit, granola and yoghurt, fresh fruit juices, bagels and other pastries, coffee, and tea. May I add that this is not your average continental breakfast; the food is delicious as per par of the standard of this hotel. The atmosphere at that time is not stuffy at all and you are dining casually with other hotel guests only since the restaurant is not open for breakfast to the general public.

RELAXING AT THE DELAMAR

While at The Delamar, I was treated to a couple spectacular treatments at the Delamar Spa. I enjoyed a full body massage as well as a custom facial utilizing french skin care Biologique Recherche. The Delamar Spa is a luxury center located on the second floor of the hotel that offers skin care, massages, and nail care. upon arrival, you are greeted warmly by staff and escorted into their relaxation room which is STUNNING. You are welcomed into this bright, airy, and casual glam styled suite where there is an offering of fresh fruit and water as you wait for your treatment to begin. There is also a changing room complete with lockers, robes, and slippers were you can undress and store your belongings while comfortable in a plush robe and slippers. My full body massage was phenomenal. I am not a stranger to massages as I get massages once a month at least due to my headaches and body aches. My therapist was professional, kind, and very good at his integrative technique.

When it came to the facial, I was a facial virgin. At 30 years old, I had never had a facial before so I had no idea what to expect. I was escorted into the treatment room by an amazing and well seasoned esthetician. I undressed and got onto the table ensuring to expose my neck and shoulders as that is part of the facial experience. Unfortunately, I had a full face of make up on prior to the facial due to a photoshoot that I had had prior to. But the esthetician, true to brand, utilized great products and technique to remove the heavy plaster of make up on my face to expose my skin underneath. Biologique Recherche is one of two European skincare treatments that the Delamar Spa utilizes. Currently, The Delamar is offering a Spa-Cation package for couples that includes a 60 minute massage, in-room bubbly, and for Sunday departures, you have the option for a late check-out!

I want to thank the team at The Delamar West Hartford for a phenomenal experience. It is always a lovely time there and I can’t wait to go back once this semester ends for a well deserved staycation with my husband. Be sure to check out the other Delamar Hotel locations in Southport, Greenwich Harbor, and Traverse City, MI! Until next time loves, big bisous!
